School
Information
Located
in one of the most economically challenged communities
in the country, St. Martin de Porres High School is
a Catholic, coeducational high school whose mission
is to serve students of Cleveland who would be unable
to afford a private, college preparatory education.
The school is dedicated to providing students an excellent
education through its rigorous curriculum and high standards
for student success.
St.
Martin de Porres makes this opportunity financially
available to its students through the Corporate Work
Study Program in which students work one day a week
in a professional setting. This innovative program enables
students to earn the majority of their school tuition
and to learn valuable skills that will prepare them
for college, for their future careers, and for their
service to their communities.

Program
The
St. Martin de Porres Volunteer Corps is open to single
recent college graduates who are interested in simple
community living, open to spiritual growth, and desire
to serve teenagers in an urban, Catholic setting.
During
this two-year commitment, beginning in late July and
ending at the end of June of the second year, volunteers
are supported in the program through:
• a service opportunity that unites volunteers’
interests with the school’s need
• community housing with other program volunteers
• a modest living stipend encouraging a simple
lifestyle
• health and dental insurance
• transportation and auto insurance (for school
and community activities)
• opportunities for faith development and reflection
• on-site mentoring
• two years of a transforming experience for both
volunteers and students
Pillars
COMMUNITY
Recognizing
the benefit of support and a commitment to the program’s
mission, volunteers live as members of an intentional
community that seeks to share responsibility while
also encouraging personal growth.
SPIRITUAL
GROWTH
Through
retreats, prayer, and spiritual guidance, volunteers
develop a “spiritual consciousness” of
discerning God’s call in their lives.
SIMPLICITY
Working
and living in solidarity with the underprivileged,
volunteers commit to a simple lifestyle characterized
by interpersonal relationships rather than material
goods.
SERVICE
Called
to love God through loving God’s people, volunteers
strive to break the cycle of poverty by striking out
against social injustices in the Cleveland area.
